Early Life and Family Robin D. Griffin was born on March 21, 1961, to the late Elizabeth Griffin and Freeman Marshall Griffin. From an early age, it was clear Robin carried a rare and remarkable gift — at just five years old, he could play music by ear and effortlessly recreate anything he heard on the radio. His natural talent for music and singing became a lifelong passion that reflected his creativity and soul.
Robin grew up surrounded by love and laughter, sharing his life with his siblings Dr. Veronica Michele Brooks (Griffin), Janice Satcher (Griffin), Dr. Patricia Griffin, and Dr. Freeman Marshall Griffin, Jr. He was preceded in death by his beloved siblings Jackie Lee Griffin and Dr. Phillip Marshall Griffin.
A man of ambition and strong work ethic, Robin began working at McDonald’s as a teenager at 13 years old and dedicated 15 years to the company before transitioning to the Electric Company, PNM. After his department downsized, he found his true calling as an educator. Robin’s compassion for others and his love for learning led him to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration and management. As a teacher, he went above and beyond — even teaching English to Spanish-speaking parents to help their children succeed academically.
Robin was known for his huge heart, quick wit, and top-notch sense of humor. His laughter was contagious, his music uplifting, and his cooking unforgettable. He had a gift for making people feel at home wherever he was.
Robin met his sweetheart at the age of 22 but the time was not right for them to be together. Robin would say, God has brought us full circle and when the time was right on July 19, 2003, Robin and Karen finally wed. They shared a life full of love, laughter, and great food. If you were to review his pictures, you would find recipes and snapshots of food! Robin’s smile, comedy, good humor made him such a joy to be around.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Karen Griffin, with whom he shared 22 years of marriage, his loving siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews who will forever cherish his love, lessons, and laughter. Robin’s life was a song of service, joy, and compassion — and that melody will never fade.
