With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rochelle Christine Angley on July 16, 2025, at the age of 46. Rochelle was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, educator, and friend whose strength, resilience, and love left a lasting imprint on all who knew her.
Born on July 12, 1979, in La Grande, Oregon, Rochelle grew up in Walla Walla, Washington, and was a standout student-athlete at Wa-Hi, excelling in softball, basketball, and volleyball. In July of 1995, she became a mother to her son, Taylor - a defining moment that revealed the fierce love and determination that would guide her through every chapter of her life. She balanced motherhood, academics, and sports with a grace and grit that became her signature.
After high school, Rochelle earned a softball scholarship to Mankato State University, where she pursued her love for athletics and education. Later, she relocated to Redding, California, to be closer to Taylor and her family. There, she attended Shasta College, continuing her athletic pursuits by playing both softball and basketball. In 2010, Rochelle was inducted into the Shasta College Hall of Fame.
Rochelle then began her dream career in education in the early 2000s and was soon invited to help launch a new charter school. That school was University Preparatory School, and from the moment it opened its doors in 2004, Rochelle became a foundational force. For over two decades, she inspired generations of students and staff, helping shape a school culture built on care, excellence, and integrity. She started her journey at U-Prep as a 6th grade teacher and coach of varsity basketball, volleyball, and softball. After earning her administrative credential and a master's degree in Administrative Leadership in 2014, she briefly stepped away to serve as an assistant principal at both the junior high and K-8 levels. She returned to U-Prep with even greater perspective and purpose, taking on the role of assistant principal. In 2022, Rochelle fulfilled a lifelong dream when she was named Superintendent/Principal of U-Prep - a role that perfectly reflected her passion, leadership, and steadfast dedication to the school community she loved so deeply.
In 2018, Rochelle was diagnosed with breast cancer, beginning a courageous seven-year battle marked by strength and grace. She faced multiple rounds of chemotherapy, two courses of radiation, numerous surgeries and procedures, and countless hospital visits and treatments - all while continuing to Enjoy The Journey.
She is survived by her son, Taylor, and daughter-in-law, Hannah; her loving mother, Angelina; her sister, Robyn, brother-in-law, Luke, and nieces, Journey and Jersey; her brother, Brody, sister-in-law, Alicia, nephew Jamie, and niece Jensen. Her family was her greatest pride and deepest joy.
Rochelle will be remembered for her compassion, fierce spirit, and deep commitment to the people she loved. Her legacy lives on in the students she mentored, the lives she touched, and the example she set for all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 2nd at 8:15 PM at the University Preparatory School Football Field. All who knew and loved Rochelle are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family is in the process of establishing a memorial fund, with more information to follow soon. The funds collected will be used to create a lasting tribute in her honor or to give back to the campus and U-Prep community that she cherished so deeply. We appreciate your patience and support as we work through the details of the account and navigate this time of loss.
