Rodney K. Nelson
Faithful Servant of Christ
May 4, 1932 – November 7, 2025
Rodney K. Nelson, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant of the Lord, went home to be with his Savior on November 7, 2025, at the age of 93. Rodney lived most of his life in Rockford, Illinois, though his roots were in nearby Shirland, where he was raised. He was born in Cedarville, Illinois on May 4, 1932.
A man of steadfast faith and quiet strength, Rodney served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he built a successful entrepreneurial career, and lived a life centered on faith, family, and community. On September 2, 1956, in Elmwood, Illinois, he married the love of his life, Janice, with whom he shared a beautiful lifetime of devotion and partnership. Their marriage was a steadfast bond-rooted in faith, strengthened by friendship, and lived out in the everyday moments of care and companionship they shared. A longtime church-member, Rodney found deep joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others. His humble generosity and unwavering devotion to God were a light to all who knew him.
Rodney is preceded in death by his father, Robert Rodney Nelson; his mother, Margaret (Kryder) Nelson; and his sisters, Dawn (Nelson) Scott and Patricia (Nelson) Brown. Preceded in death also by a number of nieces and nephews.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Janice (Rodgers) Nelson; his sons, Gregston, Douglas, and Jeffrey (Laura); his cherished grandchildren, Brittany, Bailey, Robert, William, Jessica (Ryan), Jennifer (Sam), Jaclyn, and Abigail; and his precious great-grandchildren, Isaac, Gideon, Lenora, Connor, Grace, Charlie, and Maverick.
Rodney's life was a living testimony to his faith in Jesus Christ-marked by integrity and steadfast love. Though his family and friends mourn his passing, they rejoice in the promise of eternal life and take comfort in knowing he now rests in the arms of his Lord.
A private ceremony will be held for family. Rodney will be interred at Shirland Cemetery.
"Well done, good and faithful servant enter into the joy of your Lord." - Matthew 25:23
