Roderick Abbott

Roderick C. Abbott Jr., 84, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026. He was born on August 23, 1941, to the late Roderick Crabtree Abbott and Dorothy Lupton Abbott.

Roderick graduated from New Bern High School in New Bern, North Carolina, and continued his education with some college coursework at Western Carolina. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Bennington (CVS-20). His naval service spanned four years, three months, and twenty-nine days, from February 5, 1962, through June 30, 1966.

On December 20, 1964, Roderick married , Martha Sue Rupel, and together they shared many years of marriage and family life.

A man of faith, Roderick was a member of Granger Missionary Church while living in Granger, Indiana, and later a devoted member of Calvary Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he lived for the past 13 years. He was a lifetime member of the ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League), reflecting his long-standing interest in amateur radio.

Earlier in life, Roderick enjoyed fishing and cherished every opportunity to return to his childhood home along the coast of North Carolina. In recent years, he and Martha Sue made their home in Charlotte, North Carolina, where they enjoyed being close to two of their four grandchildren, and appreciated the absence of snow and ice.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Sue Abbott; his children, Jennifer (Allen) Abbott Lloyd and Roderick Keith (Cindy) Abbott; and his grandchildren, Zoe Cynthia Lloyd, Finnegan James Lloyd, Henry Paul Abbott, and Marigold Jane Abbott. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Dalen Abbott and his nephew Jamie (Crystal) Abbott, cousins and extended family members.

A memorial service will take place for Roderick, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 w 8th St. Mishawaka. A burial will follow in Ferrisville Cemetery.
