Rodney James Holmstrom Schenectady - Rodney James Holmstrom, 94, of Schenectady, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Rod was born in Ludington, MI to the late Ernest and Ruth Holmstrom.
He graduated from Michigan Tech in 1951 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He lettered in varsity track and set a school record in the pole vault. Rod attended the US Coastguard Academy Officer Candidate School in 1955 and served active duty until October 1958. He was assigned to the MACKINAW ice breaker in the Great Lakes. Rod had a 40+ year career at General Electric primarily in engineering management.
Rod is predeceased by his wife of 61 years Frances (DeMarco) Holmstrom, his sister Lois (Holmstrom) Lewis, and his brother Ernest Robert Holmstrom. He is survived by his three children, Jeffrey Holmstrom, Keith (Michelle) Holmstrom, Beth (Edward) DeArias; his grandchildren Christopher (Jessica) Holmstrom, Bethany Wright, Edward (Alexa) DeArias, and Aimee DeArias; his great grandchild Victoria Holmstrom; his sister in law Evelyn (DeMarco) Tessier; his nieces and nephews.
Rod loved his family first and foremost. He enjoyed fastpitch softball (nicknamed "Fireball Pitcher"), fishing, hunting, skiing, and gardening.
There will be no calling hours and the services will be private.
