Rodney McConkie Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Premier Funeral Services - Salt Lake City on Jun. 26, 2025.
Rod died peacefully in his sleep at home June 23, 2025. He was born and raised in Salt Lake City/Granger/ West Valley. His childhood memories included time in Vernal with his beloved grandparents, camping with his family, playing with his cousins, large family reunions, teasing his sisters and mowing lawns to make money. He attended Granger High School where his favorite things to do were singing in the choir and playing baseball. He was super proud of the fact that every vehicle he owned in his life he paid for, all throughout his life he found great satisfaction in finding a bargain or doing something for less money.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England and held a lifelong love for the things he taught, the people he met, and the fish and chips!
He married Robyn and together they had Rob and Rachell which were two of the most important things he said he ever did. He talked often about his love of being a dad and the moments with his kids were some of the ones that made him the happiest to remember.
His marriage to Wendy Gabbert came next, which held challenges but also happy memories he held close.
Marriage to Cindy was brief and not what he thought it was going to be but made him stronger.
Rod and Wendy meet, here we are 14 years later. Struggles and hardship- health issues, job struggles, relationship bumps in the road.. we got through it all. Fun and happiness- grandkid activities, cruises, motorcycle rides, dates.. we had a lot of that too. We committed to always sticking it out and did.
He was larger than life and never met a stranger. He loved his wife, kids, grandkids, golfing (not the real
kind where you keep score) bowling, hot tubs, cruises, armpits (family term for cuddling with your honey), music/singing/karaoke, sugar treats, root beer floats, the mountains, his family/cousins/aunts/uncles, his pets, motorcycles, and much more. He loved telling Dad jokes and making someone laugh. Making a living, saving money, and paying for not just the needs in life but the hard work/rewards too was something he excelled at. His struggles and challenges in life were heavy at times but he always found a way to get up and move on. His passing will leave a huge void in the lives of any that knew him. God bless the open road that led me straight to you (and will one day lead me back to you) Rest easy and be safe honey/son/Dad/Grandpa/cousin/friend. We will miss you !
