Visitation for Rodney F. Shaffer will be held Monday, February 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. and funeral services begin at 1:00 p.m. at Rose Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden, Louisiana.
Rodney was born November 17, 1946, in Gibsland, Louisiana and went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2025, in Minden, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Helen Shaffer, sisters, Janice Greer and Winnie Sue Hall.
Rod, Rodney, Pa Paw, Big Daddy, whatever you called him was one of a kind. He loved his family dearly and always would call each one to let them know, often. Rodney loved sports, especially LSU. Sitting in his favorite chair cheering them on and calling out the refs and the wrong plays was very normal around our house. Baseball was his favorite, he even went to training camp with the Atlanta Braves in Florida and worked out with Hank Aaron, but a shoulder injury ended it all.
After ending his playing time, he went to coaching and loved every minute of it. Of course, he coached his kids and many young boys in Minden. After that time ended, he followed and supported his kids and grand kids where ever they played and loved every minute of cheering them on---now we cheer you on to your heavenly home.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Shaffer of Minden; sons, Roddy Shaffer (Danielle) of Shalimar, Florida, Denny Shaffer (Bridgette) of Bossier City, and Dustin Shaffer (Amy) of Marshall, Texas; daughter, Kristi Shaffer of Minden; sister, Joyce Puckett of Minden; brothers, Jerry Shaffer and Randy Shaffer both of Minden; grandchildren, Jordan, Braylin, Julia, Jake, Courtney, Lexie, Gage, Brooklyn, Destini, Eli, and Ella and 8 great-grandchildren.
