Roger Anderson Obituary

Obituary for Roger K. Anderson, 1948-2023

The world lost a good man on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Roger Anderson (Rog) was born in Huron, South Dakota on June 21, 1948. When he was young, the family moved to Denver where he grew up and went to school. He achieved his Masters Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation at the University of Colorado in Greeley. He moved to Durango in 1980 to run the Vocational Rehabilitation office for the State of Colorado. He remained in that position until his retirement in 2005.

He met and later married Zorena Eoff Anderson and the two of them had a wonderful life. They celebrated their 35th anniversary on May 21. Rog enjoyed golfing, camping, boating, travel, family and friends and cooking! He was a life member of the Elks and volunteered for many things there, like painting inside the building and dealing cards at the Charity Ball.

He never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He touched many lives in his career, and after retirement, made many friends during their winters spent in Arizona.

He is survived by his loving wife Zorena, daughters Angela Robideau and Jennifer Mesich; brother Craig (LaDonna) Anderson; sister Marci (Mike) Sparkman; grandchildren Kyle and Kori and two nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.

Per his wishes, his body has been donated for science and research to hopefully help find a cure for this horrible disease of cancer. There will be a celebration of life planned in Durango later this summer.

Roger was my DVR counsellor. If it wasn't for him and DVR I would be where I be today with a degree. I wouldn't have met my wife, which I met at College. Today on 4/23/23 I learned of his passing and this same day I finished my training as a Social Worker. Something he had a part in me becoming... Sorry for his families loss. Roger helped me become who I am. I am thankful for that.

I worked with Roger in the 80´s and 90´s. He was a tireless advocate for his clients and an incredibly collaborative and resourceful professional. I was proud to call him a friend.
