Roger A. Blattenberger, 80, of Mercersburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in
Chambersburg, PA.
Born January 26, 1945 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Guy R. Blattenberger and
Violet Rinedollar.
Roger served in the United Stated Navy for 23 years from 1963-1986, retiring as a Master Chief,
Torpedoman's Mate. Roger served on two submarines, Jallao (U.S.S. 368) and Sailfish
(U.S.S.572). Over his Navy career, Roger worked as an Assistant Division Officer, Safety Officer,
Legal Officer, Quality Assurance Officer, and Chief Master at Arms. He served as a Deputy
Sheriff in Seminole County, FL. In 1985 he started a greenhouse business, Vio-Lyn Plants Inc. in
Mercersburg. He last worked as an elected PA State Constable from 1994 – 2009. Roger
enjoyed working on his family farm, fishing, and history, and he was a railroad enthusiast.
Roger is survived by his wife, Lynda (Beckwith) Blattenberger, three children, Lucinda (Joey)
Rupert, Scott Blattenberger, Yvonne (David) Shields, 8 grandchildren; Danielle and Jarret
Stepler, Andrew and Nathan Rupert, Chase Heckman, Autumn Neil, Tatum and Tanner
Blattenberger, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Roger was a member of the Mercersburg Lions Club and was honored with a Melvin Jones
Fellowship. He was a lifetime member of the Mercersburg VFW, and American Legion of Fort
Loudon Post 606, a member of the Orlando Masonic Lodge No. 69, a member of the Franklin
County Republican Committee, and served on the Tuscarora School Board.
A funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Monday, May 5, 2025 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in St.
Thomas, PA with Reverend Matthew Kayhart officiating. There will be a viewing 1 hour prior to
the service. A private burial will take place at Indian Town Gap National Cemetery.
