Roger Albert Brandell, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023, surrounded by his family at the Jersey Shore Post Acute Rehabilitation and Care Center in Neptune, NJ. Roger was born in Montclair, raised in Bloomfield, until moving to Brielle, NJ in 1986. Mr. Brandell attended Bloomfield Senior High School, graduating in 1951. In high school he earned varsity letters in wrestling and track and field. Other hobbies in high school included fishing, hunting, and cars. He served in the Marines from 1951 through 1954, receiving The National Defense Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal. He married his high school sweetheart, Beverly, in 1955. His day began with a Mass at St. Marks (Sea Girt) or St. Denis (Manasquan) Catholic Churches, followed by a stop in the Brielle Library, reading newspapers, books, and chatting with the librarians. Roger was a long time Art Directory for James H. Matthews & Co. in Clifton, NJ before retiring in1998. Summers in Brielle, the beach with family, golfing with family or friends were his favorite pastimes. His hobbies included watching the NY Giants, NY Rangers, and fishing at the Manasquan Inlet.
Mr. Brandell was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Beverly (nee Fisher), his eldest son, Thomas Albert, and survived by children: Martha Barrett (husband Steve) of Bridgewater, NJ, Karen Rankin of Bradenton, FL, and Michael (wife Deborah) of West Orange, NJ. Ten grandchildren: Kevin Brandell (wife Monica), William Hamilton IV (wife Jessica), Christopher Brandell, Joseph Hamilton (wife Erin), Nicholas Brandell, Erica Rankin, Robert Brandell, Davis Brandell, step grandchildren: Stephanie Milks (husband Eric), Michele Ross (husband Scott). Six great-grandchildren: Brock Borlenghi, Greyson Hamilton, Paxton Milks, Porter and Cruz Hamilton, and Emerson Ross.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be Sunday, January 22, 2023 from 1 pm - 4 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, NJ 08736. In lieu of flowers and to celebrate Roger's life, consider making a donation to Brielle Public Library, 610 South Street, Brielle, NJ 08730.
