Peggy my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!

I knew him only as "Mr. Burris." Over the last 20+ years, he reupholstered numerous pieces of furniture for us. All perfectly done! He took such pride in his work. I hope you find peace and comfort in your loss.

My wife, Betty Poore, introduced me to Roger years ago. He came out to our home either to pick up or deliver some chairs I was particularly fond of. Betty noted what she thought was a wild set of coincidences: (1) that Roger and I shared the same last name, (2) that I am originally from what is known as "the furniture capital of the world" (High Point, NC), but I knew nothing about repairing home furnishings (and didn't know anyone who did), and (3) we both -- Roger and I -- would always go on and on about golf.

While thumbing through yesterday's Post & Courier, Betty came across the sad news about Roger's passing, which introduced another coincidence: (4) Roger's wife and my mother share(d) the same name: Peggy Burris.

I didn't know Roger well, but I considered him above all else friendly and, therefore, a friend. When Betty and I learned he was retiring from repairing upholstery, I still figured our paths might cross on a first tee somewhere. Perhaps they will. Perhaps they will ...

RIP Roger. Good times on the golf course. I wish I had seen you shagging.

I thank God for Roger's friendship. I will miss his voice, his laugh and his presence. An amazing man and I will keep his family and many friends in my prayers for peace and comfort. Rest well Roger and thank you for all the reasons so many respected and looked up to you !!

So sad to be losing a good friend like Roger. We've spent a lot of time with Roger and Peggy on Lake Murray, traveling to Shag Contests and staying together in NMB. He will surely be missed by so many. Prayers and condolences to Peggy and the family. Roger was one of the best.
