Valencia - It is with great sorrow to inform you that Roger Allen Carl, father to Warren Carl and Candice (Carl) Burns has passed away.
Roger was born on August 28,1926 and passed one week short of his 98th birthday on August 22, 2024. Our father lived through the Great Depression, served in the Pacific with the US Navy in World War II on LCI(G) 558 manning the forward 40mm AA gun as a Petty Officer 3rd class (PO3). In 1948, Roger transferred to the US Air Force serving in communications during the Korean War and at the beginning of the Vietnam War. Roger retired in 1964 as a TSgt (E-6) after serving 20 years.
Following his service to the United States, Roger attended college and eventually hired on as a Material Testing Aide with the Los Angeles City Bureau of Standards retiring after working with the city for 20 years.
Following his retirement from the City of Los Angeles, Roger relocated to Gardnerville NV, where enjoyed his later years as a volunteer with the Military Amateur Radio System (MARS). Roger also assisted with radio support for the annual Death Ride® Tour of the California Alps until 2010. In 2014, my brother Warren and I moved him to southern CA, to the retirement community, Sunrise at Sterling Canyon, in Valencia CA.
Warren and his wife Renee Carl, Candice Burns and her husband David are Roger's only living relatives. Roger will be laid to rest, along with his wife Peggy who proceeded him in death, at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley NV.
