Roger Davie Hammond, born March 28, 1953, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 4, 2025 at the age of 72. He is preceded in death by his parents, Len G and Thelma Hammond; his brother, Allen Hammond; and brother-in-law, Ricky Mathis.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Sewell Hammond; children, Nathan and Lacy Hammond, Branon and Sarah Hammond, Luis and Lindsay Santiago. Roger was also a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Cason and Janna Hammond, Jewel Hammond, Jackson, Addy, and Weston Hammond, Hannah, Joseph, and Christian Santiago; his great grandchild, Hayes Hammond; his brother and sister in laws, Bettina Hammond, Jill Mathis, Dennis and Patricia Watson, Wade and Sharon Sewell.
Roger had a blessed marriage of 52 years to his high school sweetheart. The love he had for his family was unmeasurable. He was a member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church and a strong man of faith. He was proud of his heritage and his blessed life at the prettiest place in the world, Hammonds Crossing. Roger was a giving man who taught us the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 9, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Coal Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Martin, Rev. Dusty Mathis, and Rev. Eric Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Coal Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
