Roger Allen Hodges, age 73, of Rocky Mount Va, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025. He was born on September 5, 1951, to the late Cabell and Cora Hodges. He is also preceded in death by his two brothers, Ronnie Hodges, and Russell Hodges. Roger was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend whose humor and warmth touched countless lives. He fought a courageous fight with strength and grace. While our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing he found peace and has gone to be with the Lord.

Roger is survived by his loving children: Kim Green (Lazarus), Regina Tune (Mac), Christie Gibson (Chris), Christopher Hodges and Amanda Hodges. He was a proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the light of his life. Roger is also survived by his devoted siblings: Richard Hodges, Linda Yopp, Susan Harrison, Betty Hood, and Randall Hodges. He had countless nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and treasured his humor, wisdom, and big heart. Roger had a Bonus Son in Law, Thomas Simmons, who he thought the world of. He also had a bonus daughter, Joelle Osgood who he considered one of his own. Roger shared a unique and cherished bond with his dear friend, Sammy Hollaway, whom he loved like a son.

Roger was truly one of a kind. His infectious sense of humor could brighten even the darkest days, and his ability to find joy in the simple things made him a blessing to be around. A natural storyteller and jokester, Roger was the life of every gathering. He had a natural green thumb and took pride in his garden just to grow veggies to give to everyone else. He spent countless happy hours playing cards with his card buddies and built a legacy of love and laughter that will not be forgotten.

Roger’s family was his pride and joy, and he always made time for those he loved.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 Virginia Market Place Dr., Rocky Mount, VA.

The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support during Roger’s illness. To honor Roger, the family invites you to plant a garden, share a joke, or spend time with your loved ones—just as he would have done.

Roger will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love, humor, and spirit will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, a lasting testament to a life well lived.
