Roger Hoestenbach Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Green Hill Funeral Home of Owasso on Jan. 6, 2026.
Roger Doyle Hoestenbach, Jr., AKA Mr. Wonderful, was born on March 24, 1954, in Odessa Texas to his parents, Wanda Faye Armstrong and Roger Doyle Hoestenbach. He had two siblings, Debbie (Hoestenbach) Smith, and Leslie Green. He passed away at the age of 71 at Oxford Glen Memory Care Center in Owasso on Saturday January 3, 2026, following his battle with Alzheimer's.

Roger went to school at Laton High School where he graduated in the class of '72. From there he went on to attend Cameron University graduating in the class of '76. He also attended Texas A&M University. Roger married the love of his life, Pam Dorrough and they were married for 50 years. As an Army Brat, Roger lived in Many places but spent most of his time living in Texas and Oklahoma. Roger was a proud recipient of the Points of Light Award, presented by President George W. Bush. He also received numerous awards from Texas A&M University through AAFCO & AAPFCO. Roger's career took him from being a Merchant Marine with Tidex Marine Service, to being the Feed Inspector for the State of Oklahoma Department of Agriculture and finally to becoming the Associate Director at the office of the State of Teas State Chemist, which he held for 37 years.

Roger had a variety of interests. He enjoyed Bowling, he was a master Naturalist, enjoyed scuba diving, and he loved being on the water. He was a longtime board member of the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival, bloodhound rescuer for over 20 years and a foster for over 10 years. He was a great storyteller, he cracked up at his own "Dad" jokes, and he was a lover of all animals, and he loved his music, that no one else in our family could quite relate.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Pam Hoestenbach of Owasso; his children and grandchildren, Michell Hoestenbach Janah with her husband Yassir, and their three children, Caden, Layla, and Sammi; Jenifer Hoestenbach Miller with her husband Brandon, and their two children, Wade and Cara.

Graveside and Burial Services will be held at a later date in Odessa, Texas.

Memorial Donations may be made in Roger's Name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

Pam and family,
I was saddened to hear of Roger's passing. His dad was my mom, June (Hoestenbach) Holden's youngest brother, so we were cousins. We mostly knew each other as kids since we live in CA, but we saw each other as adults only a few times. The last time I saw Roger was in the backyard of his stepsister Vicki (Hoestenbach) Udy before she passed away from cancer in 2002.

Like father, like son, both Roger Doyle Jr. and his dad were brilliant men in their own way. I am so proud of them.

I didn't know that Roger Jr. had Alzheimers, much less long term. I am so sorry for your loss.

Our parents were better at visiting one another more often, even with many miles in between. We need to learn from their example.

May God comfort you and your family in the months to come with His presence and peace.

God bless and love,
Sherry and Steve Cox
