Roger Fredrick Huebner was born March 15, 1943, in Houston, Texas, a few minutes after his twin brother, Richard — and on his mother’s birthday. From that very beginning, he was a sweet blessing to his family and friends. He passed into eternal life on February 19, 2026.
Roger grew up in Arlington, Texas, and from a young age was known to be a talented artist. After graduating from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, he worked for Walt Disney and later became a designer for the Japanese entertainment company Sanrio. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
Roger later became a Professor of Advertising and Illustration at the University of Oklahoma. His work was exhibited at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman. He often looked at things as they were and would say, “I think there’s a better way.” This inventive spirit led him to file numerous patent applications for his ideas and creations. Roger loved Oklahoma and lived there most of his life.
One of Roger’s great loves was his dogs, whom he truly considered family. They were his constant and loyal companions, and he always put their needs above his own.
However, Roger’s greatest love was Jesus Christ, his forever companion. In his final years, Roger’s dependence on Jesus sustained him through both physical and emotional trials. He loved telling the story of Christ and His love. Roger hand-calligraphed hundreds of Scripture verses and mailed them to friends. Recently, many of these verses have been copied and are now circulated to inmates as part of a prison ministry program.
In his later years, Roger enjoyed watching accounts of near-death experiences, hoping to catch a glimpse of heaven and what might lie ahead. He looked forward with great anticipation to being with his Savior.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus Taylor Huebner and Wynelle Schlick Huebner; his brother, Richard Huebner; his sister, Leta Huebner; and his niece, Sarah Huebner Robinette.
He is survived by his brother, Taylor Huebner (Jeannette); his sisters, Mary Overstreet (Paul) and Wynelle Sagehorn (Jerry); and many nieces and nephews.
A family graveside service will be held in Wharton, Texas, on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Memorial donations may be made in Roger’s honor to the ARFhouse Animal Refuge Foundation in Sherman, Texas, or to Lutheran World Relief.
