Roger James Irving, 77, passed away on December 23, 2024, in Corydon, Iowa. Roger did not wish to have services.
Roger was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 3, 1947, to Walter and Mildred (Irene) Beever. He grew up on the Melcher short cut until he was five years old, before moving to Chariton. Roger attended Chariton High School, graduating with the Class of 1965. He went on to community college before starting to work in various places in the area. Roger was active in 4-H growing up, and that is where he met his future wife, Diane Kunch. As a young man, he was in love with nature. His first ambition was to be involved with ranger work, but life took other turns.
Roger and Diane were married on June 8, 1968, (so he could not forget his anniversary of 6-8-68.) Two years later, they welcomed Tina Marie, and she was the love of Roger's life. Sons, Brad and Tim completed their family. Roger worked in a variety of jobs in Nevada, Iowa, and then returned to Chariton. It was there he started working for Co-op until he began working at Hy-Vee Warehouse where he was an employee for 28 years.
His years following retirement were filled with auctions and antiques. Roger and Diane set up at the Iowa State Fair in Pioneer Hall for almost 20 years prior to his decline in health. They also set up at Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant for a number of years, selling antiques. It was at these venues, where they met and made many long-time friends. A large part of Roger's life was dedicated to raising Boston Terrier puppies and giving many people the joy of having a loving companion.
Roger leaves behind his wife Linda "Diane"; daughter, Tina Marie Achebe; sons, Brad (Jenni) Irving and Tim (Crystal) Irving; grandchildren: Michael (Summer) Kline, Mikaela (Levi) Lewis, Marek (Cheyene) Kline, Kendrick Achebe, Kyra Achebe, Austin (Alyssa) Irving, Alyssa Irving, Jacob (Kendra) Lowry, Clayton Rich, Vanessa Longworthy, and Jonathan Irving; and eleven great grandchildren with two more on the way.
Roger was preceded by his parents; brother, Rodney Irving; sisters in-law, Donna Sutton and Ida Kunch; brothers in-law: Dwain, Richard "Dick" and Don Kunch; along with many many family members.
Memorials may be directed to Almost Home Animal Shelter in Roger's name.
