Roger Jones Obituary
Roger Kay Jones
January 1, 1947 - November 1, 2025
North Salt Lake, UT - Surrounded by his family, Roger Kay Jones returned Home on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the age of 78 after a long-fought battle with cancer.
Roger was born January 1, 1947, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the fifth of six children born to Lizzie Marguerite Godfrey and John Carlos Jones, Sr. His father taught him to work hard and to play hard.
Roger graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1965. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Auckland, New Zealand, from 1966-1968. Only three weeks after he got home, his dad died suddenly from a heart attack. Roger spoke fondly and often of that tender time, and he became his mother's emotional support for the next 35 years.
Roger met Carol Johnson in 1970 and married her in the Logan Utah Temple in 1971, and the two of them moved immediately to St. Louis, Missouri, where he attended Washington University School of Dental Medicine. After graduating, they relocated to Bountiful, Utah, where they raised their seven children, and Roger ran his dental practice until his retirement in 2017.
Roger was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He wore his heart on his sleeve, letting everyone know how much he cared about them. He lived by the mantra, "Preserve the relationship." He never refrained from a compliment or held back a hug. As a result, he was deeply loved by countless people.
He had an adventurous spirit, and took dozens of trips around the world. He loved to scuba dive with his best friends, Stan and Gregg. They hiked the pyramids in Guatemala, ziplined in Costa Rica, cruised to Australia, and many others. He also traveled the world with his dear wife. He never tired of seeing all the beautiful places on the earth, and spoke with fondness for the experience he had and the people he met.
He was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and bore his testimony often. His greatest joy was the knowledge that he may have his family with him for eternity.
Roger's life was rich and full, and he loved every minute of it. He will be missed desperately, until we meet again.
Roger is survived by his eternal sweetheart, Carol, and their seven children: Cindy (Jared) Pearson, Teri (Merrick) Pack, Jason, Kim (Jared) Jacobson, Jaren (Amber), Erin (Jason) Gough, and Steven. His grandchildren: Jeffrey, Kailyn, Brennan, Sariah, Claira, Maya, Aliyah, Lizzie, Robyn, Caleb, Eli, Ivan, Kai, Cael, Talan, Kellan, Levi, Dana, Camille, and Gavin, and great-granddaughter and name-sake Eloise Kay. Miyuki Pilger, a foreign exchange student that lived with them 40 years ago, still calls him "Dad." He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Carl, Shirley, Joyce, Richard and David, his son John Robert, and 2 grandsons, Cameron and Luke.
