Roger Martindale Obituary

Published by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Nov. 8, 2016.
Roger Mather Martindale, 80, of Windsor, beloved husband of Kathleen (Stockwell) Martindale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at his home. Born in Hartford on October 27, 1936, son of the late Ray and Margaret (Mather) Martindale, he was raised in Windsor and was a graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1954. After high school, Roger continued his education at Bryant College in Providence, RI where he received an Associate Degree in Accounting. He returned to Connecticut and enrolled at the University of Hartford (Hillyer College) where he received a B.S. in Accounting and later he received his MBA from American International College in Springfield, MA. Roger worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years and held positions as an accountant and controller in Hartford, Springfield, IL, Pittsburgh, PA, and Austin, TX. During his retirement, Roger volunteered at Bradley International Airport as a Bradley Ambassador three days a week. He enjoyed helping people and had worked up until the day before his passing. Starting at a young age, Roger always had a fascination with trains and trolleys. His grandfather Martindale was trolley operator and he accompanied him on the last trolley ride from Windsor to Hartford before the trolley system was disbanded. Most of all, Roger will be remembered as a family man who loved to be with his wife, children, and his four grandchildren. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Susan Ellrod of Windsor; two sons, Steven Martindale and Douglas Martindale and his wife Kerri all of Windsor; four grandchildren, Rhys, Corinne, Rory, and Caeden Martindale; and two cousins, Ellen Eldridge and her husband Jerry of Windsor, and Mary Jane Snyder and her husband David of Shelton, CT. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Earl Ellrod in 2013. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association , 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492 or by visiting www.heart.org/donate or to the Connecticut Electric Railway Association, Inc., c/o Connecticut Trolley Museum, P.O. To the Roger Martindale family

It was a shock to learn of Roger's death. I worked as a Bradley Ambassador at the same time he did. He will be greatly missed.
