Roger McPheeters

Roger Earl McPheeters, age 91, lifelong resident of first Cowgill, then Braymer, passed away April 14, 2025, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer after a 4 year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Roger was born on 1/2/34 which he enjoyed telling. His parents were James Earl McPheeters and Lucille Mae (Richardson) McPheeters Weicker. Roger was united in marriage for sixty-three years to the love of his life, Nancy Sue Toomay on November 27, 1952, at McBee Chapel. For school he attended Baker Hill, Frog Pond, Polo High School, and then they both graduated from Braymer High School in 1951. Roger worked in Cowgill on the family farm, did some carpentry, sorted mail, worked at a cafe and grocery store.
After Roger and Nancy were married, they eventually moved to the Toomay farm to manage with her parents, Mike and Mary Donna, 9 miles Southeast of Braymer. In 1957, they moved into a new home built by Roger and his father-in-law, Mike. To their union, five children were born: Cindy (KJ) Rogers, Braymer, Missouri, Roger L. (Colleen) McPheeters, Jefferson City, Missouri, Stephen (Connie) McPheeters Liberty, Missouri, Mary (Ritchie) Dake, Henley, Missouri, and Craig (Kristina) McPheeters, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; eleven grandchildren: Kent (Katy) Rogers, who built a house on the farm, Rachelle Rogers, Marshall, Missouri, Candacea (Steve) Steele, Timnath, Colorado, Blake (Stacy) McPheeters, Jefferson City, Missouri, Bret (Ashley) McPheeters, Liberty, Missouri, Brooke McPheeters, Las Vegas, Nevada, Warren Hays (Melody Stratton), Mission, Kansas, Lana (Brandon) Bashore, Henley, Missouri, Melanie (Kenny) Abbett, Iberia, Missouri, Delaney (fiancé Derrick Yaeger) McPheeters, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Carsyn McPheeters, Columbia, Missouri; eighteen great grandchildren: Gabe (Emma Rasa) Rogers, Caden Crooker, Karissa Rogers, Clay Crooker, Khloe Rogers, Rylee Bashore, Jackson Bashore, Avery Bashore, Kaje Rogers, Boone McPheeters, Gavin McPheeters, Brynnlee McPheeters, Tristen Earl Bashore, Jaxon McPheeters, twin boys Bo & Brock McPheeters, Freddy & Bertie Stratton-Hays and seven bonus grandchildren. Roger is also survived by his youngest sister, Carol Lawson, Grandview, Missouri, and many nieces and nephews. He was so proud of all and to have the McPheeters name carried on. Roger was preceded in death by his wife Nancy on April 29, 2016; his parents, Lucille Weicker and Earl McPheeters; stepfather, Jack Weicker; sister, Marcia Lee; brother, Alvin Lynn McPheeters; grandson, Kyle Rogers, brothers-in-law, Alan Lawson and Bob Lee.

He was a Sunday school teacher and faithfully went to the Braymer United Methodist Church. Roger farmed until he was 65 years old when the O'Dell brothers and Templeton's took over planting Carroll and Caldwell County crops. In the past he had milked cows, baled hay, raised wheat, cattle and hogs. His happy place was being on his tractor, which son-in-law, Ritchie, helped him up onto it less than three weeks ago.
Roger was a sports enthusiast playing high school basketball, football and baseball, adult town team basketball and attending the Royals and Chiefs games. Roger coached little and Pony League baseball for his sons, Roger L. and Steve. He enjoyed watching his children Roger L., Steve and Craig, and then his grandchildren playing basketball, baseball, softball, and football games. He delighted in playing 13 pt. pitch with his wife Nancy, later daughter, Cindy, and good friends at Polo, Lathrop and Richmond. The weekly Bingo and games at Oak Tree Square was fun for him. Monthly pinochle was at the Sandwich Shop with Braymer friends. He enjoyed playing billiards in Polo and bowling for many years, going to State Tournaments. He seldom missed the Baptist monthly dinner. He loved old Westerns, playing dominoes with Mary and Ritchie, Trivial Pursuit and watching Jeopardy. Roger was on the Braymer Bank Board, the Coop Board, and the Lions Club for 28 years and held offices, served as secretary of the McBee Chapel board, and on the township board. He was community minded.

Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church, Braymer, Missouri, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Braymer United Methodist Church and/or Braymer Lions Club and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
