Roger Morgan, 70, of Benton departed this life peacefully at his home in Zion Valley on December 30, 2023, surrounded by the ones he loved most.
He was born on November 24, 1953, to the late Loyd and Grace Morgan.
Roger was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Polk County High School and served seven years in the Tennessee Army National Guard. He worked as a carpenter for TVA at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and was a member of the Carpenter’s Local Union. He earned his Contractor’s License and started his own construction business, Tennessee Valley Construction, which he ran for over 25 years. He coached Little League baseball and softball for many years. When he wasn’t coaching, he was his children’s and their teammates biggest fan. In later years, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Like his parents, he was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Throughout life he was a hardworking man who was a kid at heart often telling jokes or playing pranks on others. Roger was also a gifted and honest man who took great pride in his work. But most of all he was committed to his wife, children, and grandchildren. His family was the love of his life, and he would do anything in the world for them. Some of his fondest memories include the many holidays, trips, and vacations with his family to the beach, Dollywood, and Disney World along with eating at Cracker Barrel, his favorite restaurant.
Now his hardworking hands are at rest. But left is a piece of him with us in the many homes he built around Polk County for families that became friends, as well as the many projects for the Cherokee National Forest in Polk County and Tellico. David Stone, Henry Burchfield, and Brian Loudon were special friends and co-workers who shared this journey with him.
He was deeply loved and spent his life devoted to his family who miss him so very much.
In addition to his parents, Loyd, and Grace Morgan, he was preceded in death by his dear brother, Danny Cross; beloved in-laws, C.W. and Reba Bridges and special Granny, Della Rogers.
Left to cherish the many memories and carry on his legacy include the love of his life of 46 years, Sandra Morgan and their two children, Andrew (Kelley) Morgan and Leigh Anne (Brandon) Calhoun; cherished grandchildren, Devin Bell, McKenzie Morgan and Madilyn and Maelee Calhoun; one sister, Sheila (Mike) Ibaugh; four brothers, Frank, Donald (Debbie), Sam (Melissa) and Loyd (Wanda) Morgan, Jr., as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
