Roger Nuss

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Nuss, who left us November 13, 2025 at the age of 79. Born in 1946 to Clarence W. Nuss Jr. and Dorothy (Jean Poehl) Nuss. Roger's life was marked by his commitment to family, work, education, and community. A proud graduate of Burlington High School, Roger went on to earn a degree in accounting and further pursued studies in psychology at the University of Northern Iowa. His early career began in retail, where he served as an assistant store manager for Younkers in Burlington, eventually advancing to assistant buyer. Roger's passion for education led him to teach at Area 11 Community College in Ankeny, Iowa. Later, he transitioned into the chemical industry, where he was recruited by Colgate Palmolive's Institutional & Industrial Chemical Division, selling chemicals across Iowa and Nebraska. In 1973, Roger embarked on a new chapter in the hotel industry, a field in which he would dedicate over 44 years of his life. He played a vital role in overseeing sales and marketing efforts for more than 100 hotels across the United States. His distinguished credentials included being a Court-Appointed Receiver, Certified Hotel Administrator, Certified Hotel Sales Executive, and licensed real estate agent. He also went on to earn a doctorate in marketing. He retired as the president & CEO of US Hotel Corporation in 2017. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Deanne (Gentzler), 2 sons Jeff (Jennie) and David (Shannon) and 2 daughters from a previous marriage Julie and Angela, 2 brothers Mike & Brad and sister Nancy. Also 4 Grandchildren who he loved beyond words.

A private family remembrance will be held at a later date. The family will direct memorials to Roger's favorite charities.
