Roger Powell

1935 - 2022

Roger James Powell, age 87 passed away on December 9, 2022 at Goldcrest Retirement Center in Adams. He was bborn in Wymore on November 30, 1935 to Edward Powell and Myrtle Mick. Roger worked on farms helping to provide for his mother and brother while still attending high school. He graduated from Wymore High School and continued working in construction. On August 18, 1956 he was united in marriage to Liana Ottersberg. Roger was a foreman for Missouri Valley Construction where he helped build bridges and culverts along Interstate 80, going as far west as Valentine. They settled in Wymore and he continued construction work on nuclear power plants in Kansas and Nebraska. He later started his own construction company and retired in 2001. He was a member of the Underwater International Contractor Association and a member of several contractor unions through the years. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved spending time with his grandkids.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Liana of Wymore; children, Russell Powell, Roger Powell, Karen and Bruce Hudson, Michael Powell, and Janet and Greg Kouma; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, John (Gloria) Ottersberg and Eddie (Bonnie) Ottersberg; sister-in-law, Monnie Ottersberg; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Rodney; brother, Ronald Powell; sister, Deloris; and many aunts and uncles.
A private graveside service will be held at the Wymore Cemetery with Jon Palmquist officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Goldcrest Retirement Center with the funeral home in charge.
