Roger Rainey Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crow-Hussell Funeral Home - Point Pleasant on Mar. 8, 2026.
Roger Rainey, 73, born August 31, 1952, to Harold and Sadie Rainey of Henderson, passed away in his home on March 7, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Kim, who surely welcomed him with open arms. Once again, he is in the embrace of the love of his life.
Roger is survived by his two sons: Derek Rainey and his fiancée, Nickie, of Point Pleasant; and Jason Rainey and his fiancé, Alan, of Marietta. He is also survived by two grandsons, Tristin Rainey of Point Pleasant and Austin Brumfield of Point Pleasant; his son-in-law, Michael Barnhart of Parkersburg; and his sister, Kay.
The emptiness we feel is a reflection of the influence Roger had on our lives. Do not mourn his passing but celebrate his life-the difference he made in your life and the impact he had on the person you are today.
Roger touched thousands of lives over generations during his career. He helped shape minds not only with trade skills but by teaching students how to think and use their minds. He taught at the Mason County Vocational Center and later served as principal at Wahama High School. Not quite ready for retirement, Roger left the school system, earned his CDL, and drove truck for a year before deciding he didn't like being away from home. He finished his working years mentoring young adults once again as a correctional officer at the Robert L. Shell Juvenile Diagnostic and Intake Center.
During his early years of teaching, Roger served as an advisor for FFA. Having been a member himself, he was proud of the positive influence he had on his students. He was known for hosting random "Chili Days" for them. He also officiated high school football games, worked actively with the Mason County Fair for many years, and was deeply involved with Mason County 4-H.
Those who knew Roger will never forget his quick wit, outrageous sense of humor, and infectious laughter that could fill a room.
Later in life, he moved to Marietta to try retirement community living-but it only lasted a year. Roger loved West Virginia and the hills surrounding the river valley. More than anything, he loved being home and valued his independence.
Roger, you will be missed, but your mark on this world was greater than you ever knew.
The Rainey family's only regret is that Roger did not get to meet his granddaughter, Annistin, who is due in July.
At the family's request, there will not be a public service. Please share your stories and memories so that together we can continue celebrating Roger's life.
