Roger Roel January 12, 1960 – September 13, 2025 Roger Roel, age 65, passed away on September 13, 2025, in Floresville, Texas. Born on January 12, 1960, in San Antonio, Texas, Roger lived a life full of love, dedication, and deep family ties. Born and raised in San Antonio, Roger's early years were filled with energy and talent. He played basketball for Connell and CYO and baseball for St. Margaret Mary and showcased his musical abilities in the Highland High School band from 1974 to 1978, where he played trumpet, bugle, and drums. He also played round ball ruckus for a team called the Posse in the 80's. Roger was a true disco king in his heyday, lighting up the dance floors throughout the 1970s with his unforgettable moves and magnetic energy. He won several dance trophies and rarely missed a night out, especially on Saturdays when the music was loud and the crowds were electric. Roger's passion for dancing was unmatched - his wife often joked that she just couldn't keep up with his rhythm, but she was always proud to cheer him on from the sidelines. Roger's work ethic was evident from a young age, starting in 1976 at G.W. Jr's Burgers, then working at Tom's Restaurant in 1980. His ambition led him to pursue real estate studies at St. Philip's College from 1982 to 1984, all while excelling as a top salesman at Montgomery Wards from 1982 to 1992. From 1993 to 2005, Roger owned and operated the Highland Café, a beloved local spot known as the "best kept secret on the Southeast side." His dedication to quality and service earned him the KSAT12 Kitchen Cop Blue Plate Award in 2004. Roger was a gifted drummer and even performed for Stage One in 2001. He was known for his kindness and community spirit, famously preparing turkey dinners for the first five callers for families in need on 102.7 with Hot Henrietta-just one example of his generous heart. An avid golfer, Roger consistently scored in the seventies and cherished time spent on the course. In 2005, Roger was recruited by PFG Food Service, and later joined Glazier Foods Company in 2010, where he entered the prestigious Million Dollar Club, achieving over $3 million in sales and becoming one of the company's top salesmen. Never one to slow down, Roger served as a supervisor at Dollar General in 2015 and later worked as a pawn broker at EZ Pawn in 2017 before retiring in 2022. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Roger was a pillar of the community. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Chruch. He received numerous certificates of appreciation for his generosity and support, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Whether it was working in his yard, cooking a great meal, playing the drums, or traveling, Roger lived life fully and selflessly. His personality was like no other, outgoing, creative, passionate, giving, loving, humble, bringing people together with laughter quick with jokes great sense of humor, taking the shirt off his back to help anyone, and had a sensitive side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rogelio Roel and Oralia Farias Roel; his brother, Ray Anthony Roel; his nephew Marine SGT. Matthew E. Mendoza; his sister, Elizabeth Mendoza; his brother-in-law, Baldemar Rodriguez; and his parents-in-law, Santiago and Mary Adame. Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Deborah A. Roel; and their son, Roger R. Roel. He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Belinda Peterson (Patrick Matney), Suzie Rodriguez, and Oralee Roel (Manuel Gonzalez); brothers-in-law Robert Adame and Jerry Adame; sister-in-law Annette Howdysell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other cherished family members and friends. Roger will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, his quiet strength, and the deep love he held for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Alamo Funeral Chapels South, 624 N Alamo St, San Antonio, TX 78215.
