Roger William Schopf, 89, of Carlsville, passed away peacefully at home on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025, after celebrating both the holiday and his upcoming 90th birthday.
He was born November 30, 1935 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Alfred William Schopf and Eunice Marie (O'Hern) Schopf. Roger grew up attending Carlsville School and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute. He graduated from Sevastopol High School with the class of 1953. Roger served his country with the United States Army Reserves as mechanic until his honorable discharge on November 20, 1962.
He was united in marriage to Rose Mary Stoeger on June 1, 1957 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church where they would remain lifelong members.
Roger was the only child of Alfred and Eunice and became the second generation to manage the family dairy farm on County I, just east of Carlsville. He later joined his father in the family insurance business, A & R Schopf Agency, in Sturgeon Bay, which he owned and operated for 30 years before retiring.
Roger was an honorary lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus Alfonse Broens Council 2478 out of Sturgeon Bay for over 60 years and was also a lifelong member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He served on the Northeastern Wisconsin Mutual Insurance Board. When winter came, Roger enjoyed snowmobiling and was a former member of the Pioneers Snowmobile Club. He and Rose Mary liked to travel, especially in their retirment - Kissimmee, FL, the Bahamas, and Branson City, MO, just to name a few of their favorite places. Roger was also an avid card player (usually sheepshead) and bowler, a regular in the Monday night league at Apple Valley Lanes in Sturgeon Bay.
He will be missed by his dear wife, Rose Mary, with whom he was blessed with over 68 years of marriage; children, Steve Schopf of Sturgeon Bay, Dennis (Roxanne) Schopf of Carlsville, Douglas (Bridget) Schopf, Patricia (Kevin) Fehl, and Dale (Jeanne) Schopf, all of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Jeremy (Elizabeth) Schopf, Brandon (Jamie) Schopf, and Adam (Dana) Schopf, Ryan (Jena) Schopf, Robby (Meg Nellis) Schopf, and Robynn (Sam Fuller) Schopf, Derek (Kayla) Schopf, Zachary (Ella) Schopf, and Skyler (Sage) Schopf, Amber Fehl and Kyle (Sarraea) Fehl, and Mackenzie Schopf and Madeline Schopf; great-grandchildren, CJ and Chloe Schopf, Kaiden, Keagen, and Kinsley Schopf, Liam and Callen Schopf, Slade Nellis-Schopf and Odie Schopf, Cason and Mac Schopf, Hallie Schopf, Kyia, Saylor, and Krew Fehl; sister-in-law, Carol Kerscher of Valmy; and other relatives.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Chloe Schopf; siblings-in-law, Edward (Doris) Stoeger and James Kerscher, Sr.; and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute, 4767 E. Dunn Road,
Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with Fr. Matthew Rappl officiating. Military Honors by the United States Army and the Weber-Tess AMVETS Post 51 will follow at the church. Roger will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Mausoleum in the Town of Sevastopol.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:40 a.m.
