Roger Wait Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 9, 2025.
Roger Lee Wait, 71, of Gage, Oklahoma, passed from this life on December 7, 2025, at his home. He was born on December 30, 1953, in Boise City, Oklahoma, to Wesley D. Wait and JoAnne Vanderwerf Wait. Roger grew up in Campo, Colorado, where he attended Campo Schools and developed the work ethic and love of the outdoors that would shape his life.

On August 12, 1975, Roger married the love of his life, Anita Elliott, at the Baca County Courthouse in Springfield, Colorado. With their marriage, he welcomed a step-son, Wayne Gonser, and together they were blessed with a son, Jason. The family made their home in several communities over the years-first in Campo, then Boise City, followed by Shattuck, and finally settling in Gage, Oklahoma.

Roger spent most of his life as a truck driver, a profession he enjoyed and took great pride in. Earlier in life, he worked in a tire shop and as a field hand, never shying away from hard work. Outside of his career, Roger found joy in hunting, fishing, camping, and mechanical work. He loved being outdoors and was always happiest with a project to tinker on or time spent with family.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and JoAnne Wait; brothers, John Wait and Walter Wait; and sister, Wanda Wait.

He is survived by his wife, Anita, of Gage, Oklahoma; step-son, Wayne Gonser of Yukon, Oklahoma; son, Jason Wait of Gage, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Whitney Schulz and husband Dylan of Yukon, Oklahoma; grandson, Jacob Gonser and wife Bailey; granddaughter, River Parr and husband Jeremy of Omaha, Nebraska; great-grandson, Gavin Gonser; great-granddaughters, Amara and Hailey Parr; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of beloved friends.

A private family burial took place at Gage Cemetery, with a celebration of Roger's life to be held at a later date.
