Rogers L. Durham, age 89, of Portland passed away on Friday February 27, 2026 in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare in Portland. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 6, 1936 the son of Philip and Gretchen (Barngrover) Durham. He was married on December 28, 1955 to Janice Durick who survives. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa and received a degree from Cincinnati Bible Ministry in 1960. He and his family came to Portland in 1979. Rogers was an ordained minister and served churches in Kentucky, Texas, southern Indiana, Centerville, Pennville and most recently The Gilead Church in Jay County. Rogers had been President of Jay County Cancer Society, Past president and board member at JRDS, Past President of Cincinnatus League and recipient of Lifetime of Service Award. After retirement he was chaplain for State of the Heart Hospice for nine years.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years Janice, one son Stephen Durham (wife Amy) of Chapin, S.C., one daughter Sarah Egly (husband Glen) of Muncie, two brothers David Durham of Carson City, NV., and Chuck Durham (wife Mary) of New Castle, CO. Four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Rogers "Rog" Durham Jr.
Funeral services will be Saturday March 7th at 1:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Van Cise presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 – 1:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Jay County Special Olympics or Jay Randolph.
