Roland Clisch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reid Funeral Service & Chapel on Jul. 15, 2024.
Roland James Clisch, age 79 of Baraga, MI passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Bayside Village, L'Anse, MI. He was born in Baraga on August 26, 1944, the son of the late David D. and Rose F. (Ellenich) Clisch. Roland graduated from Baraga High School in 1962. He proudly served in the United States Air Force with the 551st Strategic Missile Squadron from 1962 until 1966. Roland retired from the State of Michigan Park Service in 2002 with 34 years of service. He spent most of his career at the Porkies. He worked in park maintenance, built cabins, was certified in water and wastewater treatment and worked on the ski hill. One of his most challenging projects was construction of the Summit Peak Tower where building materials had to be brought in by helicopter. He enjoyed reading, deer hunting, and was an avid gardener. In the winter months he enjoyed MTU hockey, attending games for 45 years. He was a member of St Ann's Catholic Church, Baraga.
Roland is survived by his siblings Gerald (Shirley) of Baraga, Thomas (Mary Kay) of Baraga, Colleen (Thomas) Armstrong of Milwaukee, WI, and Lisa (James) Mantila of Republic MI, and sister-in-law Helen Clisch of Baraga. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He would also wish to recognize special friends Dave and Sue Massie. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roger Clisch, Paul Clisch and Father Norman Clisch, and sister-in-law Shirley Clisch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2024 at St Ann's Catholic Church with Father Jins Joseph, celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Immediately following Mass, military honors and graveside services will take place in the Baraga Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in the church hall following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Roland's honor to be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic School. Envelopes will be available at church.
The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
