Rollin Ray "Dode" Welch, 87, of Newcomerstown, passed away following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Ohio's Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia. He was born December 23, 1936, in Newcomerstown, to the late Charles and Sylvia (Fansler) Welch. He was a Newcomerstown High School graduate. Dode worked at Simonds/Heller Brothers for 41 years. He enjoyed driving around the neighborhood on the Kubota, raising donkeys, was the Pied Piper of barn cats and was the fictional mayor of Post Boy. On July 21, 1956, he married his wife, Juanita (Rothenstein) Welch, who passed away July 27, 2023. Dode is survived by his children, Michael (Denise) Welch, David Welch, and Kathy Welch of Newcomerstown, Melissa (Tom) Berry of Texas City, TX; grandchildren, Justin (Jessica) Welch, Jarhett (April) Groff, Leighanna (TJ) Felts, Hannah Welch, Alexis (Jonathan) Brubaker, Seth (Allison) Berry, Nicole White, Michael White; and 14 great-grandkids. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Kenneth Welch, Dennis Welch, and Vonda Berger. A graveside service for Dode Welch will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM at West Lawn Cemetery. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Ohio's Hospice Truman House (www.ohioshospice.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
