“PaPa”
February 14, 1955 – April 24, 2025
Rommel K. Smith, Sr., affectionately known as “PaPa,” was born on February 14, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio, to Robert Williams Smith, Sr., and Marie Knox Smith Sanders. He graduated with the Class of 1974 from Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Rommel later relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where he attended DeVry University, majoring in Electrical Design Studies. He enjoyed a long and successful career as an electrical designer, retiring from Ametek Solid State Controls after more than 40 years of dedicated service.
In addition to his work in engineering, Rommel had a thriving career in real estate. He was a proud member of the Board of Realtors for over 25 years, leaving a mark of professionalism and service in that field.
Rommel was a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist faith. He was baptized on December 31, 2019, and worshipped at Advent Hope International SDA Church in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Rommel was the life of every gathering. He deeply cherished time with family and friends. An avid traveler and passionate cook, he loved sharing good food and laughter. He also possessed a special talent for woodworking—a skill passed down from his father.
On Thursday, April 24, 2025, Rommel peacefully departed this life at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. Smith, Sr., and Marie Knox Smith Sanders; his beloved son, Rommel Keith Bush; and his siblings Junie, Trina, and Eric.
