Celebrating the Life of a Legend
Ronald Arthur Anders, 87 years old, of Oro Valley, Arizona, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in his home on March 4, 2024. He was born on August 9, 1936 in Mesa, AZ, to Otto (Art) and Violet Anders, and grew up in Southern California. He graduated from Van Nuys High School in California, and later graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in forestry. He also graduated from Reserve Officer Training Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
Ron married Dorothy (Dot) Lee Anders (Stewart) August of 1957.
Ron Anders proudly dedicated 8 years of his and his wife's life to serving his country. He piloted a KC-135 Stratotanker in the U.S. Air Force, refueling countless combat aircrafts during the Vietnam War, while stationed at Okinawa, Japan. Upon honorable discharge from the Air Force, Ron began his commercial pilot career with American Airlines. With skill and dedication, he safely transported countless passengers (souls) across the skies, retiring after 30 years of service.
Beyond his remarkable career, Ron Anders was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He shared over 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife Dot building a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. His family regards him as a humorous, loving and honorable man, the quintessential patriarch.
Known for his warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness, Ron Anders touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
In his free time, Ron enjoyed flying his two private planes, sharing his love for flying with his loved ones, building model train tracks, hiking, camping, traveling, cruises, 3D printing, and playing Gin Rummy. Ron believed it was "ALWAYS 5 O'CLOCK SOMEWHERE" (he passed away at 5 pm).
Ron Anders is now with his beloved wife in heaven. He is survived by his loving sister Sharon Mendonca; children Terrie, Kathy and Ron, and their spouses; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Though he may be gone from our sight, Ron Anders' aviator spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and service

I met Ron and Dot through my husband, Wade Clark. They were best friends along with Charlie Walker at Van Nuys high school. I have great pictures of them and we all enjoyed visiting whenever we could even though we lived in California and they were in Arizona.

What a great guy. He was a fine person and easy to work with at American Airlines. They don´t are them any better than Ron.
