Ronald Frank Asmus, 88, formerly of Haskins, Ohio, peacefully entered into the fullness of God's presence March 28, 2026, in Wilmington, NC, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

He was born August 6, 1937, at his family's farmhouse on Middleton Pike, to the late Clarence and Lavina (Hagen) Asmus, the second of five sons. Ronald married his high school sweetheart, Suzanne Fox of Haskins in 1960, and together they built their home on Middleton Pike. They moved to Wilmington, NC in 2016 to be nearer to their daughters, and celebrated 65 years of marriage in September.

After graduating from Haskins High School in 1955, he worked at Libby Owens Ford and Brush Wellman factories before partnering in 1973 with his brother, Dale, in the family farming business until his retirement in 1999.

A man of faith in action and commitment to assist others, Ronald served on Haskins Town Council and Planning Commission, as a volunteer firefighter for Haskins/Middleton Township Fire Department for 50 years retiring as a captain, and in the Ohio Army National Guard. In 2021, Middleton Township Fire Engine 662 was dedicated in his honor during its push-in ceremony.

He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Haskins, where he sang in the choir with Suzanne, provided landscape maintenance, enjoyed fellowship in the men's dartball league, and built a life-sized stable for the Christmas nativity, and aisle candelabras, still in use today. They became members at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Wilmington, where they continued to serve together.

Ronald is survived by Suzanne, daughters Heidi (Jim) Smithey, Andrea (Joey) Fitzgerald, and Connie (Rick) Van Arnam, grandchildren Curtis (Ashley) Smithey, Kyle Smithey, Connor (Nicole) Van Arnam and Elana Van Arnam, two great-grandsons, Liam Smithey and Alexander Van Arnam, brothers Dale and Larry, and many nephews, nieces and cherished extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Dean.

A private funeral service for immediate family will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Wilmington, NC. A public Rite of Committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2026 at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Captain Ronald F. Asmus Volunteer Firefighter Award #302957E, a scholarship established in his honor through Bowling Green State University, to provide tuition for training of Ohio volunteer firefighters. Checks may be mailed to BGSU Foundation, Inc., Attn: Gift Processing, Mileti Alumni Center, 136 N. Mercer Road, Bowling Green, OH, 43403, providing the above award designation.
