Ronald Fee Chow was set free from his earthly dwelling as he entered the presence of Jesus on the first night of June 2025. He passed peacefully in his home in Independence, Kentucky-his residence of 46 years-surrounded by loved ones. His final days were marked by the exceptional care and unwavering devotion of his beloved wife of 54 years, Mayme Riley Chow.
Their love story began when they were barely teenagers-an unlikely but endearing union between an Asian boy raised among the lively streets of OTR and an Appalachian girl from Kentucky. It was a love that endured decades and left a lasting legacy of faith, family, and service.
Ron's life was characterized by humility, kindness, and a servant's heart. From giving rides to churchgoers to coaching countless youth and adult sports teams, he found great delight in bringing joy to others. He worked tirelessly, often long hours of overtime, to provide abundantly for his family. His quiet strength and generous spirit touched everyone who had the blessing of knowing him.
Never one to boast, Ron was an outstanding athlete who enjoyed bowling, softball, tennis, and golf. Just as memorable was his deep appreciation for good food-spoiled by the authentic Chinese cooking of his mother and the hearty country cooking lovingly served by his in-laws. Ron passed on both his love of good food and sports. His son, Derek, and daughter, April, carry on his passion for competition, coaching, and investing in the lives of others.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Fee and Choy Chow, and his brother, Jerry. He is survived by his loving wife, Mayme; his children, Derek (Edie) and April (Jimmy) Gentry; his grandchildren, Braden (Alana), Sibelle, Leyton and Jordyn; and his great-grandsons, Sebastian and Callum. He is also mourned by his siblings: Don (Polly), Nanci (Steve) Schmidt, Kenny (Beverly), Jenny (Dick) Huddleston, Rick (Lynn), and many adoring nieces and nephews.
The family extends special thanks to St. Elizabeth Hospice for their compassionate care throughout these past years. A heartfelt appreciation goes especially to Jamie and Amanda, whose presence and dedication from beginning to end meant so much to us.
A private family service will be held and Ron will be laid to rest at Independence Cemetery.
