Ronald (Ron) Clayton passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2022. He was a greatly cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Ron was predeceased by his two beloved wives, Nancy (Lofstedt) Clayton, and Dorothy (Pierce) Morris, and his child Jenna Clayton. He is survived by his children Leslie Clayton, and Jan (Clayton) O'Neil, her husband David and their children Sean and Sadie, his daughter-in-law Leslie (diCurcio) Marra, her husband Nick and her children Mollie diCurcio Clayton and Anna Clayton, and Dorothy's children Sue Lunt and her husband Jeff, Jill Moore, Rick Morris and his wife Sheree, and Janet Hassett and her husband Chris, and their children Scott, Steven, and Jessica Lunt, Caitlin Graziano and her husband Chris, Michael Moore, Arty and Sarah Morris, and Kelly Hassett.
Ron was one of five children of Elizabeth (Renshaw) Russell, and her husbands Kenneth Clayton and James Park Logan. He was born in Long Branch New Jersey, and grew up in New Jersey with his siblings Ken Clayton Jr. (deceased), Jamie Logan, Trudy Logan, and Mike Logan. Ron was particularly close to his brother Jamie, and they enjoyed many great conversations, laughs, and lunches together.
Ron was a proud alumnus of Bates College, where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. While there he fell in love with fellow alumnus Nancy Lofstedt, and they married soon after graduation. He also served as Class Secretary for many years, and wrote memorable annual updates for the Class of '53. Ron spent most of his career as an advertising copywriter, and his love of the written word carried over into his passion for reading and crossword puzzles.
He also loved maps and atlases, but not content to explore the globe only from his armchair, he took many wonderful trips across America and Europe. Ron's interest in travel also helped him acquire a truly impressive "life list" of over 400 species of birds. He was a passionate birder who cared deeply about the natural world, and a generous and enthusiastic member of Mass Audubon for many decades. Even in his final years he recorded the birds he saw on daily walks around his apartment community.
Ron's sense of humor, keen intellect, and kind and generous nature brought him countless lifelong friends, and the enduring love of his family. He enjoyed life greatly, and brought a quick wit and a ready laugh to every family celebration, dinner party, college reunion, and social gathering he attended. He will be greatly missed.
