Ronald Albert Coonrod, age 86, of Quincy, died Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 6:12 am in his home.
Ronald was born July 15, 1936 in Whitehall, Illinois, the son of Albert Ivan and Ruth Coonrod. He married Dianne Elaine Pieper on March 17, 2017 in Quincy.
He is a 1954 graduate of Whitehall High School. Ronald started to work for CIPS August of 1954 and retired from them in July of 1997. He served in the United States Army from 1959 till 1962. While he was in service, he was stationed in Germany when the Berlin Wall was erected.
Ronald was a member from 1985-2000 of the Big River Carvers Club, where he served as the President in 1998. He was an avid chainsaw carver, and did many demonstrations at county fairs and festivals, mainly in the midwest, but would also attend some in Florida, California, Washington, and Oregon.
He restored nine of the carousel horses from the old carousel on the Quinsippi Island. Many of which are now on display at the Carousel Museum in Leavenworth, Kansas.
In addition to his wife, Ronald is survived by three sons, Ronald Dean (Vicki Gudgel) Coonrod of Quincy, Steven Coonrod of Quincy, and Michael (Elaine Burgtorf) Coonrod of Liberty, IL; five grandchildren, Nicolas Coonrod, Joshua Coonrod, Hunter Coonrod, Cole Coonrod, and Allison Coonrod; two sisters, Royalene Brogdon, and Carol Little; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-in-law, Merle Brodgdon and Jerry Little.
Graveside Services: private family service will be held at Greenmount Cemetery, with Rev. Steve Disseler officiating.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois with Military Honor conducted by the United States Army Funeral Detail and the American Legion Post 37.
Visitation: 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
