Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tyler M. Woods Funeral Director from Apr. 26 to Apr. 27, 2025.
Mr. Ronald "Ron" George Bergquist, 79, Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025 peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born February 17, 1946 in Duluth, MN., a son of the late George C. and Irene (Shields) Bergquist. On June 5, 1989 in Mehlville, MO., he was united in marriage to Barbara Hamm who survives at their home.
Ron's life was full of love and energy as both family and friends know. Though he never shared when his passion for music started, Ron convinced his parents to let him take up guitar at age 12. He worked hard both with his music and his newspaper delivery route to keep his music alive (and financed). In high school, he and likeminded friends put together a band, and as his talent grew, so did his passion and opportunities. This love grew into the fast-growing local sensation called Sounds Like Us, and at the height of his music career, Ron and his fellow band members celebrated success with their number two hit on the music billboard, Clock on the Wall. He continued to play music professionally for most of his life, playing in the music genres Country, Worship, and his all-time favorite, Rock and Roll music.
Ron was also successful in his work life. Starting in an entry position at National Iron Works in Duluth, he worked his way up to General Manager and was the last to leave, locking the doors on the Duluth location in the 80s. He continued to grow in his work life, and in 2001, as the CIO of Digital Convergence, he found himself again the last man out following the devastating effects of the dotcom crash of 2000. Yet he never gave up and continued working and building his career until he retired in March 2010 as VP of IT at Cash America International. But retirement did not end his work life. Ron worked hard in his home-based business, Dri Wash 'n Guard Clean Without Water, featuring cleaning products at car shows, RV shows, boat shows and other venues. His last job was his favorite: a few weeks before Christmas in 2016, Ron and Barb opened A Block Away Quilt Shop where he was Owner, Manager and Sewing Machine Technician. The Shop was in business until June 2022 when he had to go back to full retirement due to health issues.
Family and friends know that this is only a small portion of his story. He was caring, loyal, trustworthy, dedicated and so much more. We find a large void without Ron in our lives and though we will honor his wishes and live our best lives ever, we will always find that there is something missing. We love you Ron, and always will.
In addition to his loving wife: Barb; he is survived by four children: Jennifer Goodwin (Paul Baker) of Brashear, MO., Kate Matheson of Jefferson City, Christopher (Jennifer) Bergquist of Lake Dallas, TX., Craig (Angela) Bergquist of Carrollton, TX.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother: John Bergquist.
A Celebration of Ron's Life will be planned for June of 2025.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in Ron's memory to: Save the Music Foundation
