Ronald Gilman
Jacksonville - Ronald George Gilman, 95 of Jacksonville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday September 21st, 2025, in Jacksonville. He was born August 4th, 1930, in Naples, IL the son of Roy and Venia Cox Gilman. He married Margaret Lucille Fletcher on August 7th, 1948, in Detroit IL and together they shared 72 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on September 10th, 2019.
Ron is survived by a son, Paul Gilman of Elmhurst, IL and a daughter, Peggy (Bryon) Wisdom of Jacksonville, IL; two grandchildren, Kayla Gilman and Alex (Callie) Wisdom; and two great grandchildren, Olivia Hatchel and Julien Wisdom. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Rowena Enke.
Ron served in the Army during the Korean War. After his service, Ron returned home to farm and work as a truck driver before starting a career with Country Companies in which he sold insurance for over 30 years until his retirement in 1993. Many of Ron's clients described him as a man of integrity and committed to his family.
Ron served on the church board at the United Methodist Church of Winchester and taught Sunday school. Later in life, Ron and Margaret joined Westfair Baptist Church and loved their church family. In 2016, Ron attended the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight in honor of his service.
Ron enjoyed playing Bridge, camping, western dancing, being an armchair coach for his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and spending several winters as snowbirds in Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery near Bluffs. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Senior Citizen Center at Community Park or Elara Care Hospice. Condolences may be left online at ww.airsman-hires.com.
