Ronald Haugan Obituary

Ronald Haugan

June 5, 1940 - September 20, 2025

Ronald J. Haugan passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Billings, Mont.

Ron was born on June 5, 1940, to Wallace "Wally" and Edna "Cupie" Haugan in Livingston, Mont. He was raised in Livingston and graduated from Park County High in 1958. After one year at Montana State University, Ron joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for three years.

Upon his discharge in 1962, Ron returned to Montana State University to complete his degree in Accounting and Finance. During this time, he became reacquainted with Sandra Parriott, whom he married on August 21st, 1965, in Livingston. Their loving and devoted relationship lasted 57 years until Sandy's passing in 2023.

Following graduation from Montana State University in 1966, Ron began his career with a CPA firm in San Francisco, California. After living in California for three years, Ron and Sandy returned to Montana in 1969, where Ron started his career with KPMG in Billings. He was elected as a partner in the firm and served in that role until his retirement in 1995. Beyond retirement, Ron was a member of the board of directors for Stockman Bank for over 20 years. He greatly enjoyed his directorship and cherished his time with the bank's family ownership.

In addition to his professional roles, Ron was deeply involved in his community. He served as president of the Billings Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the board of directors for Billings Clinic. He was also a passionate supporter of many organizations, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Yellowstone County, the Billings YMCA and Montana State University in both Billings and Bozeman, Montana.

Ron loved living in Montana and was a true outdoorsman who cherished the Montana backcountry. He enjoyed countless adventures with family and friends, including backpacking, hiking, big game and upland bird hunting, fishing and floating rivers, skiing and sport shooting. Last, but not least, Ron was longstanding booster, season ticketholder and fan of MSU Bobcat Football.

Ron is survived by his son, Scott Haugan, his wife, Shelby, and their three daughters, Maya, Nora and Lena; his daughter, Jodie Prewett, her husband, Mark, and their three children, Phillip, Stephanie and Ciana; and his daughter, Jeannine Olson, her husband, Ed and their son, Jake. Ron is also survived by his brother, Wallace Haugan, his wife, Kristin of Seattle, Washington, and their three children, Kim, Kendra and Kyle.

At Ron's request, no funeral is planned. A private family gathering will take place at a later date in Livingston, Montana.

I worked with Ron from 1976 to 1980 when it was still Peat, Marwick, Main. He was always supportive and such a great help to me as a young person working for a Big 8 Accounting firm. Though it was a long time ago, I still thought of him as a wonderful boss and person.
