Ronald L. Hughes age 83 of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on July 23, 2025, at his
home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 6, 1941, to his parents
Forrest L. Hughes and Ruth A. (Scott) Hughes in Livingston County. Following his father's
death in Dec. 1944, his mother remarried to Carl M. Dye, who Ron always considered and
referred to as his dad. He graduated from Chillicothe High School Class of 1960.
Ron married his high school sweetheart Virginia (Jenny) Lee Jones, they were united in
marriage June 17, 1962, in Chula, Missouri, at the Methodist Church. They celebrated 63
years together and were blessed with 2 children, Cherie Lynn and Randall Lee.
He worked at the Chillicothe Municipal Utilities, Power Plant from September 1963 till
1994. He worked for the Chillicothe R-II School District driving bus number 8 for 12 years.
He also served on Livingston County Township board for several years.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Jenny, of the home; one daughter, Cherie (Hughes)
Heussner and husband, Brett of Tina, Missouri; one son, Randall Hughes and wife, Libby of
Kansas City, Kansas. Ronald leaves a legacy through his four grandchildren, Kelsey
Hughes, Cortnie Vandiver (Caleb), Shelbi Kaullen (Josh), and Alex Heussner; and 8 great
grandchildren; Brooklynn Toole, Chad Toole, and Aeliana Toole, Chase Kaullen, Walker
Kaullen, Collyns Vandiver, Creighton Vandiver, and Carly Hughes. His family extended
to his sisters, Linda Green of Chillicothe and Karen Jones of Chillicothe; bonus son.
Jeffery Ashford (Lori) of Chillicothe, and Bryan Hughes of Chillicothe; bonus
grandchildren, Alisha Retenski, Caela Ashford, and Devinn Ashford; and several nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Hughes and Carl and Ruth Dye;
three grandsons, Caleb Hughes, Cameron Hughes, and Blane Heussner; one sister,
Donna Page, sister-in-law, Shirley Shannon; and three brothers-in-law, James Green, Larry
Jones, and James Pittman.
Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Monday, July 28,
2025 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on
Monday, July 28, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at
Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s
Children's Research Hospital and/or Forest O. Triplett Animal Shelter and may be left at or
mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601. Online condolences
may be made at
