Ronald Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by West Haven Funeral Home - West Haven on Dec. 3, 2025.
Ronald Glenn Johnson entered into eternal rest on November 27, 2025 surrounded by his children. He was the beloved husband of Arlene Bergen Johnson (Red), whom he absolutely adored. A longtime West Haven resident, Ron was the son of Esther Consevich Johnson and the late Herbert Johnson, Sr. In addition to Arlene, his family includes 4 children, Robert Johnson, Cheryl Johnson (Kathleen), and Lynn Johnson (Pam), step daughter Vicky Clifford (Bob); two grandchildren Zach Clifford (Denny) and Amy Grossmann (Nick), and two great grandchildren (Faith and Morgan). In addition to his father, Ron was predeceased by his brother Herbert Johnson, Jr.

Ron graduated in 1960 from Hillhouse High School in New Haven. A veteran of the US Navy, Ron served during the Vietnam War as a Disbursing Clerk and received an honorable discharge at the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He then worked for the family business for several years at Johnson Trucking, eventually retiring in 1999 from Mid-State Medical Center where he worked as a computer operator manager. Ron was immensely loved by his family and was a gentle giant, albeit his sarcasm. His generosity to all could never be matched. He loved all his grand furbabies and their excitement for him never went unnoticed. Ron gratefully enjoyed his grandchildren, going to the cabin and stacking firewood, and doing jigsaw puzzles. He loved his Giants and was the shuffleboard champ while in Arizona.

In accordance with Ron's wishes, all services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Smilow Cancer Center.
