KAREL
Ronald Robert
Age 70, of Shoreview,
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 7, 2024. Ron was born on November 26, 1953 in St. Paul, MN to Paul and Angela (Bastyr) Karel. Ron grew up in St. Paul, attended Holy Spirit Catholic School, and was a Cretin High School Grad (Class of 1971). He attended vocational school in St. Paul leading to an over 30-year career as a cutter operator in the printing industry. Ron met his future wife, Margaret Barten, when they lived in the same condo development. They were married on September 18, 1987 in St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague, MN, the city where Margaret had grown up. Ron was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He showed us all how to be a good listener and how to keep things simple. He enjoyed playing cribbage and talked about the importance of "playing with the cards you've been dealt." This phrase was something that Ron lived out in his everyday life. After retirement Ron looked forward to his weekly visits volunteering at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, playing golf with cousins, and enjoying time with family and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Angela; and his niece, Paige Bullis. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter Amy (Sam) Hanson; sons, Andy and Adam; grandchildren, John Paul, Benedict, Lucy, and Elizabeth Hanson; siblings, Rich (Liz), Dave (Lori), Mike (Jill), Steve (Taffy) and Paula (Rocky) Bullis; brother-in-law, Bob Barten; sisters-in-law, Barb (Ted) Loiselle, Bev (Paul) Doyle; and many nieces and nephews; aunt, Sharon Karel; and many extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 4741 Bald Eagle Ave, White Bear Lake, with visitation at 10 AM until the time of mass and from 5 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Mueller Memorial, 4738 Bald Eagle Ave, with a Rosary service at 7 PM.
