Ronald Francis Kinney, 82, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025. He was surrounded by family and loved ones when he made his final journey. His unwavering kindness and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Ann Kinney; parents, Doris Elizabeth and Earl Francis Kinney; and brother, Donald Malcolm Kinney. He leaves behind his sister, Earline Zimmerman. Ronald is survived by his three children, Rhonda (Greg) Reeves, Charlotte Kinney, and Tyler (Jen) Kinney as well as his devoted grandchildren, Julia, Sasha, Ally, Kyle and Cody Reeves and Devon and Zane Arzola and Logan and Emma Kinney.
Ronald was born in Arcadia, Texas on October 15, 1943, where he grew up on a dairy farm. He often shared stories about the chores he didn't particularly enjoy as a child, like collecting eggs from the chicken coop and milking cows before heading off to school. He participated in 4-H and FFA, both emphasizing agricultural education, and was also a member of the Cub Scouts. In March of 1954 Ronnie gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized in Arcadia Christian Church. He loved sports and played football and baseball in high school. Throughout his lifetime, he delighted in joking around and never missed an opportunity to give friends and family a good-natured teasing.
It was his kind heart and outgoing personality that led him to meet and marry the love of his life, Shirley Kinney, on April 29, 1967. Together, they moved to Houston and later settled in Katy, TX where they lovingly raised their three children: Rhonda, Charlotte, and Tyler.
Ronald had a remarkable career in the commercial construction industry throughout the Houston and Galveston area, where he discovered his passion for building and was an active member of the carpenter's union. He was a foreman and worked on various projects, including banks, schools, and medical center facilities. After the closure of his employer, PG Bell Co., he transitioned to working with antiques. Ronald and Shirley discovered a shared enthusiasm for antiques, which eventually led them to open five locations at the peak of their business called R&S Antiques. Throughout their journey, they met many wonderful friends and traveled to different countries, importing antiques. After retiring from the antique industry, later in his life, he returned to the construction industry working at Wier Construction on several car dealerships and dialysis units, where he eventually retired.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501, with Pastor Les Boldt officiating.
