Time has softened the sharp edges, but has not erased the warm memory of the teddy-bear teacher with contagious chuckles. Never will.

Ron was a very good friend in law school who, among many other kindnesses, gave me the ingredients to make a Rusty Nail for my birthday 55 years ago. I am very saddened to learn of his death and send belated, heartfelt condolences to Irene and children. With love, Carol Sanger

I'm just learning of Ron's passing today and my heart is heavy. I was one of the people that had to sit across the table from Mr. Landsman in local Medicaid appeals. I give him credit for forcing me to learn and grow in my profession. We became good friends over the years. I thank him for his service to the elder law community and for the role he played in my professional development. He will be missed.

I had the good fortune of serving with Ron on the Legal Advisory Committee of the DC area Multiple Sclerosis Society for many years. He was a valued contributor. A mensch.

I have known Ron as a colleague in the practice of law, as a source of wisdom and experience in the field of elder law, as a client in my insurance practice, as a fabulous story-teller and wordsmith, and most importantly as a friend.
Ron's mental agility and sharp wit belied his gradually declining physical abilities. I will miss Ron's gentle, soft-spoken analytical prowess, and his almost teddy-bear-like chuckles when the listener has the "aha moment" and gets the point of Ron's guidance.
Rest in eternal peace and comfort, my friend.

I first met Ron in law school and remained friends as we both moved to Washington, D.C. and sought careers with some societal benefit. I admired his work for Nader but thought he had gone mainstream when he joined the Justice Department to do antitrust -- a topic well suited to his enormous intellect. When his wife and fellow classmate Susan died, it brought out another side of his character as he changed direction entirely to work on legal issues of the terminally ill. I attended a class he led on the Book of Job, a very moving experience. His office was an inviting place and assisted us with the mundane need for wills but most of all I recall lunches together at the deli nearby. Within the past few months our mutual friend Dan Guttman and I had conversed with Ron by phone and reviewed a powerful essay he wrote based on his emotional response to his serious illness. While not entirely unexpected, I cannot believe he is gone. But I fell privileged to have known him.

Ron was a good person who was very kind to me years ago when my husband died. I will never forget his friendship and support during that difficult time.

My deep condolences to Irene and all Ron's family. I had the privilege of practicing law with Ron long ago, at Spiegel & McDiarmid, before he made his Medicaid mark on the world, doing good for others and giving lawyers a good name. He was kind, funny, sweet, smart, both playful and serious, and he had a wonderful laugh. I also benefited from his friendship when I met his cousin Deborah K., whom I still consider a friend although it has been many years ... In the 1980's I returned to Michigan, my home state, and saw a bit of Ron from time to time when he visited here. I remember his sorrow when Susan died, and I was happy to see his love and joy after he met Irene. I am sorry for your loss, and the world's. May his memory be a blessing and a comfort.
