Very sad to learn of this. Ron Lanner long was the foremost academic voice speaking up for protection of the West's beautiful native Pinyon-Juniper forests, and pushing back against those seeking to destroy them.

Ron Lanner was a fantastic writer and author of several seminal books on California trees (Conifers of California, Bristlecone Pine book, The Pinyon Pine, etc.).
I corresponded once or twice with him by email and he was always helpful and willing to answer questions, etc.).
