Ronald Mackey Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Ronald E. Mackey, affectionately known as "Ron" or "Butch," age 80, of Bridgeport,
Connecticut entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
He was born on June 25, 1945, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to the late George and Elizabeth Mackey. Ronald grew up in Bridgeport alongside his brothers, Gregory Mackey and Dewight Mackey, who both preceded him in death.
Ron proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a firefighter. Following his military service, he worked at Remington Arms, Norden Systems, and Bridgeport Brass before joining the Bridgeport Fire Department, where he served his community faithfully for more than 28 years until his retirement.
Ron was also involved in the Bridgeport Firebird Society, an organization he cofounded with his best friend, Donald Day, to help minorities have greater opportunities for advancement within the fire department.
Although Ronald did not have biological children, he was blessed to be called a stepfather by Yvonne (Washington) Trice, Theresa Lomax, and Kim (Leo) Watson. He also shared a special bond with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his beloved nieces-Victoria Bracey (New York) and Sonia Jones (Virginia)-who were his blood relatives, as well as extended family who loved and respected him
deeply.
Ron was known for his calm spirit, sense of humor, and caring nature. He enjoyed spending time with family, listening to music, and watching his favorite sports teams. Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, quiet strength, and the steady presence he brought into every room.
He leaves to cherish his memory with his loving companion, Shawna Hall, his stepdaughters,
Yvonne, Theresa, and Kim (Babygirl); a dear friend, Magdalene Gathers; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, great-nieces and nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
