Ronald Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 29, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Joseph Miller, who passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 79.

He was born June 20, 1946 in Brazil, Indiana to the late Clarence and Julia Miller. Growing up in Logansport, Indiana he was one of six siblings, Steve, Janet, Mary, Ellen, and Vince.

Ronald honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany.

Following his military service, he earned his Bachelor's degree from Indiana State University and began a long and dedicated career with the St. Clair County Health Department in Port Huron, Michigan.

Starting as a Sanitarian, he worked tirelessly over the years and eventually served as the Environmental Health Director, a role he held with pride and commitment for many years. The Health Department was his second family. He also enjoyed teaching food safety classes at St.Clair Community College.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 48 years, Karen Miller, and a loving father to his two daughters, Mandy Welsh (Nathan) VanNest and Jessica Miller. He was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

Ronald was an avid sports fan who especially loved Indiana Hoosier basketball, Green Bay football and wrestling, a sport he competed in during his younger years. He was an enthusiastic golfer and you could always find him on the golf course with his friends. Ronald held a special brotherhood with his long life friend, Ken Oxfurth. He was a longtime ticket holder for the Indianapolis 500, attending the race for over 20 years-an experience he cherished deeply. Ronald enjoyed the outdoors especially growing his own gardens and camping with his family. Ron loved cooking and feeding a crowd especially for family get togethers. He loved his pets, his many Volkswagen VW's, music, and going to concerts.

He was the epitome of a true hippie who embraced the teachings of peace and love and appreciated the legalization of recreational Marijuana.

Those who knew Ronald will remember him for his kind heart, his stubborn determination, and his goofy sense of humor. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Loved by many and respected by all, he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date to be announced by family members.

Memorials are suggested to his family.
