Mr. Ronald Pearson Cornwall Chunn, 75, passed on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Med Star Washington Hospital and Hospice singing praises to the Lord.
Born August 7, 1947 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Shirley Cornwall, DDS of Panama and Angeline Pemberton Chunn and Paul Chunn.
Educated in the public schools of Rowan County, he was a graduate of J. C. Price High School. He continued his education receiving a full scholarship from Z. Smith Reynolds Tobacoo Company to Livingstone College where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in History in 1969. He earned his first Master's Degree in Juris Doctorate Law Degree in 1972 and second Masters of Business Administration in 1973 both from Columbia University. Mr. Chunn was last employed with Youngevity in sales. He previously worked in sales with Water Resources in Raleigh, NC, he was editor of the Carolinian Newspaper, a radio announcer with WLLE with affiliates in New York, New Jersey and North Carolina, a gospel promoter for groups such as the Sensational Nightingales, the Mighty Clouds of Joy, and the Jubliee Singers to name a few. Mr. Chunn previously worked in real estate in
Manhattan, NY and as an agent with Brown's Realty. He was also an insurance Agent with Prudential Insurance Company.
A member of Gethsemane Seventh-day Adventist Church in Raleigh, he and his wife, Dianne Adams Chunn, attended Dupont Park Seventh-day Adventist Church in
Washington, DC where they resided. Mr. Chunn worked in every aspect of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He worked under the tutelage of Doug Bachelor from 2001-2002, served as interim Pastor for the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Sanford, NC, started the Smithfield Seventh-day Adventist Church in Smithfield, NC and served as the first Elder there for several years. Mr. Chunn served as representative of ASI for the South Atlantic Conference, member of the Bylaws Committee of the South Atlantic Conference, Southern Union Committee, former President of the South Eastern District Federation of Seventh-day Adventist of NC, and fundraiser for several of the Adventist Churches and in the community.
His love of the ministry motivated him to become the devotional leader of Morning Glory, began a literature evangelism, work with the Prison and Health Ministries, and in 2012 he started TBSH-The Bible Study Hotline every Sabbath evening from 6-8pm.
Mr. Chunn was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and worked on public policy with past Presidential elections. He was known as "The Peanut Man" because he sold peanuts to several dealerships.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 37 years, Dianne Adams Chunn of the home; children, David C.A. Chunn, MD (Sylvia) of Nashville, TN, Ronald Pearson Cornwall, Jr. (Narobi) of Clayton, and Arminta M. Cornwall of
Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren, Syria, Cristian, Seth and Aidan Chunn, Mateo, Isabella and Emily Cornwall; brother, Quezryth Chunn (Kimberly) of Ft. Washington, MD; step-sisters, Dianne (O.W.) Rustin and Shelia Blackwell Stokes both of Salisbury, and Linda Faye (Kenneth) Flint-Brown of Mocksville; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
