Ronald "Ron" Dale Peterson, affectionately known as Superman, passed away on August 28, 2025. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, Ron leaves behind a lasting legacy grounded in faith, adventure, and unwavering love.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ron graduated from Woodland High School and served honorably as a United States Marine. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business from Alabama University, furthering his education at Dartmouth University. In 1962, he married his soulmate, Patricia Ann Williams, beginning a love story that spanned 65 wonderful years.
Ron's career with Westinghouse took the couple across the country as he served as Credit Manager. Wherever they settled, Ron and Pat built a warm and nurturing home for their three children. During this time, he began honing his gift for public speaking-leading Toastmasters meetings with poise and delivering heartfelt Sunday school lessons at Roswell United Methodist Church (RUMC), where his faith and storytelling uplifted many.
Retirement opened a new chapter of adventure and service. Ron and Pat traveled the globe, volunteered on mission trips, and remained active in church and community life. A highlight came in 1996, when Ron had the honor of carrying the Olympic torch for the Summer Games in Atlanta.
Above all, Ron was a devoted partner. Through caregiving, teenage years, and life's curveballs, he and Pat remained inseparable-holding hands, cheering each other on, and modeling enduring love.
In 2020, Ron was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Though the disease ultimately took his memory, he never lost his sense of humor or joyful spirit. In 2023, the couple moved to Holbrook in Woodstock, and eventually, Ron received compassionate care in a memory unit. Pat preceded him in death on May 26, 2025.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Elmer Peterson; his sister, Gail Peterson Noe (and her husband Jack Noe); nephew Jeff Noe; and son-in-law Jeff Scarborough. He is survived by his children: Karen Scarborough; Ronald D. Peterson Jr. (Kathleen Marran); and Anne Kisella (John Kisella); grandchildren James Scarborough (Jessica Louty Scarborough), Chelsea Scarborough (Imani Ellison), Shayna Kisella (Justin Metts), and Amber McMichen (Lee McMichen); great-grandchildren Jericho and Brylee; niece Janet Wilson; and nephews Dr. Jack Noe and Jeremy Noe.
Ron's legacy is one of kindness, leadership, laughter, and love-a protector, teacher, and friend who created cherished memories through everyday moments: pool games, wrapping paper sword fights, family vacations, playing tennis, long walks, and a shared faith journey.
In accordance with Ron's wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. His spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Ronald, please visit our Tree Store.
