Ronald Gregory Pettaway, age 77, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on March 8, 1948, in Toledo, Ronald was the beloved son of Willie M. Pettaway and Kathryn June Pettaway. He grew up in a close-knit family rooted in faith, love, and perseverance-values that continued to shape his character throughout his life.

Ronald was a proud graduate of Woodward High School, Class of 1966, and went on to earn his Bachelors from The University of Toledo. Driven by a passion for equality and justice, he dedicated his professional life to public service, ultimately serving as the Northwest Ohio Regional Civil Rights Director for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. Through this work, Ronald touched countless lives, championed fairness, and earned numerous accolades for his leadership and commitment to civil rights.

Outside of his career, Ronald lived a full and vibrant life. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, ballroom dancing, and attending sporting events-activities that reflected his joyful spirit and love of community. He will be remembered for his deep devotion to family, unwavering faith, caring heart, strong mind, and persistent nature.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Willie M. Pettaway and Kathryn June Pettaway; and siblings Kathryn J. Richardson and Kenneth R. Pettaway Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 55 years, Marva J. Pettaway; his children, Gregory Pettaway (Toni Pettaway), Aaron Pettaway, and Dawn Pettaway; his siblings, Patsy A. Smith, Willie M. Pettaway Jr. (Gayle Pettaway), Michael J. Pettaway, Sherri L. Johnson (Kenny Johnson), and Jeff Williams.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ebony Pettaway, Ahren Campbell (Kenneth Campbell Jr.), Jedah McGee, Brittany Pettaway, and Bre'Onna Pettaway; and his great-grandchildren, Skylar, Dallas, Kennedi, Kenzie, Kennei, and Kenleigh. Ronald's legacy lives on through each of them.

Ronald's life was one of service, dedication, and love-a life that will continue to inspire all who

knew him.
